CASCADE

CASCADE is an acronym for the Coalition of Activist Students Celebrating the Acceptance of Diversity and Equality. It is the bisexual, lesbian, allied, and gay organization of students at Howard University and its mission is to celebrate, educate, and advocate for the diversity and equality of the LGBTA community.

Cascade’s “Colors” GB meeting!

Come out to Cascade’s “Colors” discussion!
There will be an In depth discussion of what the different colors of Bandanas actually meant to the early gay culture in terms of sexual roles and preference. On friday at 6pm sharp in Blackburn room 148/150.

The purpose of this event is to solely educate, encourage, and support not only those in the LGBTQUAI Community, but also Allies and those who seek a safe space for discussion.

Cascade’s 11th anniversary !!!

Greetings!
I hope this message finds everyone in good health and spirits. CASCADE
has some very exciting events and fundraisers planned for the upcoming
week.

Tonight from 8-10 pm in Meridian’s Reading Room (first room on the
left when you walk into Meridian), there will be an Open Mic taking
place. Entry is $3, and the stage is open to anyone interested in
performing. For more information about tonight please email me
directly at chelseakilborn@aol.com.

CASCADE’s next GB meeting will be taking place tomorrow at 4 pm in the
form of the “Gay Tour of DC”; a tour geared towards highlighting the
LGBTQ history both on and away from campus. Everyone is encouraged to
meet at the Starbucks on Georgia Ave by no later than 3:50 pm and to
wear comfortable shoes since we will be touring the city. Later that
night from 7-10 pm is “Lip Syncing for Your Life”, an integrity drag
show. The show will be located in Blackburn 150, and anyone willing is
encouraged to perform. There is a $10 performance fee, but general

Starting next week CASCADE will be fundraising at a table in Blackburn
throughout the day. Anyone interested in helping support CASCADE can
guess how many skittles are in CASCADE’s jar for a small raffle fee.
The person who correctly guesses the number will be rewarded with a
VISA gift card.

Finally, next Tuesday (October 11th) is National Coming Out Day. In
light of this celebratory day, CASCADE will be gathering to share
coming out stories (and pizza). Please keep an eye open for an email
containing more information about this.

The gayest Emmys yet

Glee, Modern Family, Alan Cumming and more! In case you missed the Emmys last night, Queerty’s put together this handy list of the most fabulous events of the night.

-Fantastic out actress Jane Lynch of Glee hosted the night like a pro, even throwing in a few lesbian jokes.

-Modern Family cleaned up with Outstanding Comedy Series and a ton of other awards (see the full awards list here).

-A number of other gay producers, writers, etc won awards and thanked their partners onstage, which is always heartwarming.

-Chris Colfer’s date was his mom. Love.
